Sony just revealed its next-gen PS5 console [video]

Sony just surprised everyone who was watching the Future of Gaming event by showing off the upcoming next-generation console, the PlayStation 5 (PS5) in all its glory. The world wasn’t ready.

Regular and Digital

It was also revealed during the live stream event that we can expect two PS5 consoles: The regular PS5, as well as a digital edition sans the disc drive. See for yourself:

When you think about it, a Digital Edition makes perfect sense. I think the last time I bought a game on an old-fashioned disc was with the release of Diablo 3: Reaper of Souls.

About 98% of the games I own live online, and I’ve been trying real hard to go minimalist anyway. Other than teasing us with the PS5 console, Sony also showed off the entire range.

PS5 complete range

The range consists of the two consoles, dual sense controller, headphones, camera and media remote. I wonder if it will be available in black? We’ll have to wait and see.

Before we were all wowed by the design aspect of the console, the focus of the stream was mostly on the games we can look forward too once the PS5 is launched.

PS5 games

From an enhanced and expanded version of Grand Theft Auto V, Godfall, and a new Spider-Man to Horizon Zero Dawn, Hitman, Ratchet & Clank and Ghostwire: Tokyo, there will truly be something for everyone.

Not everyone was impressed, though. Some of the concerns raised on Twitter include tackiness if you can believe that. One user said:

“The PS5 looks tacky but at least it looks like a console, not a computer (even though it’s just a proprietary PC). Sony isn’t getting any money from me though since they support the BlackLivesMatter riots”.

Clearly, this person has more problems in their life than just being angry over a console.

Another netizen said they were not impressed with the event because “too much focus” was placed on the way it looks.

“We want performance first. 825GB is not enough storage for a next-gen console. The majority of the game line-up was Indy games. All-in-all I’m not upgrading to the PS5 at launch”. Protection Status
