Gaming-changing new features coming soon

Trusted WhatsApp tester, WABetaInfo, announced that the world’s most popular chat app will be adding new features during the coming months.

Additional information was released about multi-device support along with the mute feature we’ve all been waiting for.

New WhatsApp features and updates

Mute forever

WhatsApp is reportedly working on a new feature that replaces the option of muting a group for one year only. Instead, users will have the option of muting group chats for forever. The WABetaInfo report states:

“This feature is under development: it means that WhatsApp is actually working to develop and improve it before the release. For this reason if you don’t see this feature in your WhatsApp build, it’s not a problem.”

The WABeta Info team spotted the “mute always” option in version 2.20.197.3 of the Android beta app. The team also shared a screenshot of the feature, showing that the “one year” mute option had been removed.

Previous versions of the mute feature only allowed users to silence groups for a year, or until the option was manually changed. The new feature will be perfect for people who are added to one too many non-important chat group.

Look, no one is going to blame you for muting that family group chat forever. We’ve all been in that one group that we cannot leave but we also cannot tolerate, usually a group with at least one obnoxious family member.

Multi-device support on four devices

We reported back in June that WhatsApp would implement multi-device support; meaning you’d be able to access your account from more than one account without having to use Business Whatsapp or the web feature.

WABeta Info took a look under the hood at the latest 2.20.196.8 beta of the Android app. They confirmed that the WA developer’s team is closer than ever at launching the most anticipated feature to date.

As per their findings, the update will include a “linked services” section in which users can add and manage multiple devices. For now, the limit has been set to a total of four.

“We’ve talked a lot of times about the possibility to use the same WhatsApp account on several devices. Actually WhatsApp is testing this possibility with four devices and the feature is still under development. In the meantime, WhatsApp is working to create a UI to manage all ‘Linked devices’”.

Multi-device support was first announced back in 2019 when the WhatsApp developer’s team confirmed that it was no longer a rumour. In March WABeta noticed that developers added encryption key changes to beta models.

Other WhatsApp features

Other features under development at the moment, include a “Search by Date” feature; as well as new storage usage options, a “clear all messages except starred” function, and a tool to search images on the web.
