Local creators share their top tips on how to become famous

Becoming famous on TikTok is about so much more than just using the right hashtag. We’ve collected some of the most useful tips and tricks from local creators, explaining how to make it on TikTok.

#TikTok101: How to stand out on TikTok

This is what the latest in-app initiative, #TikTok101, is all about – top local creators sharing their tips and tricks with other users to help make their videos stand out and ultimately gain more views on the platform.

ZaayanFour currently has 712 000 followers, give or a take a few hundred, along with 13.1 million likes. The Siebritztwins, also known as the Best Fashion Duo, have more than 100 500 followers and nearly 900 000 likes.

Post consistently on TikTok

It’s a proven fact on any social media platform that constant activity is key. The more you post, the better your chances of building an audience and increase your following by being discovered.

The @SiebritzTwins, Amron and Geo Siebritz, say they aim “to post at least once a day, but if possible, we would say post three times a day”. They explain that frequency is important, while @ZaayanFour adds:

 “I try to post as often as possible. My minimum would be four times a week”.

Use the right hashtags

Using the right hashtags is just as important as it is a great way to link your content to ongoing trends. Use as many hashtags as space allows (which admittedly is not all that much, so be clever about it).

That said, it’s also important to only use hashtags relevant to your video. If you’re sharing a video about the latest fashion trend, you’ll only do more harm than good by adding foodie or motoring hashtags, as an example.

Amron and Geo use #fashion, #ootd and #style for their fashion posts, while Zaayan says “using the right hashtag is very beneficial” to being discovered on TikTok:

“When a challenge is new, people want to see what it’s all about – adding a challenge hashtag can make your content more discoverable”.

TikTok trends and challenges

There are a wide variety of interactive challenges and trending topics available on the platform and anyone can participate. By utilising trends and challenges, creators can find common ground with other fans.

Amron and Geo suggest participating in as many trends and challenges as you can, and suggests adding songs to your content, while Zaayan says it’s important to “add your own flavour” by creating original content.

Engage and collaborate

Comment, comment, comment! And reply. If you like someone’s video, tell them. If someone said they like your video, thank them. Engagement is underrated but vital to getting ahead on TikTok. The Siebert Twins add:

“We encourage engaging and collaborating with other TikTok creators – this definitely helps to get your content out to yours and their audiences”.

Invest in yourself and your content

Lastly, it’s important to invest in yourself and your content and find your niche. If you love fashion, that’s the niche for you. If you’re a gamer, why not explore the gaming community on TikTok?

To conclude, Zaayan says that while creating good quality videos is important, people will follow you depending on the content you create, so make sure that you make it count. She says:

“Let your creativity run wild”.
