Fully automated to make photo-editing more intelligent [video]
Editing images has become less and less of a niche skill reserved for photographers and designers.
The online space has become so visually focused that if you’re involved in any online business or community, you would have needed some basic image editing skills.
While tools like Photoshop remain the high watermark for image editing suites, a lot of new tools have emerged in recent years aimed at making image editing and design.
AI photo editing
Image editing reminds me a bit of word processing. Word processing was a cornerstone of the CVs of most office-based employees.
Over time though knowledge of these kinds of office suite programs is considered basic computer literacy and an essential workplace skill.
Similarly, the visual nature of online spaces and the increasing need to be able to communicate ideas visually is making at least basic levels of image editing proficiency essential in modern workplaces.
Skylum will be releasing Luminar AI later this year. Luminar AI will be looking to build on many of the “AI” tools from its previous releases to create a smart image editing suite that will empower users to get professional results without having to experiment for hours.
Watch: AI photo editing
Luminar AI will present the user with templates designed to help complete the most common tasks as well as create effects and optimise your images.
Previous versions of Luminar included effects such as AtmosphereAI and SkyAI as well as tools like BodyAI and FaceAI for working with and optimising portraits.
While Luminar will still have the more granular tools like Photoshop, it’s clear that this software is aimed at a new market of professionals who want to create social content and thumbnails for their small businesses and streaming content but don’t want to spend hours of their day dealing with image editing workflows.
Evolving industry
Tools like Canva and Luminar are signs that the ways we use our PC’s are changing, and smarter software will be needed to bridge the gap. There will always be a need for design professionals, and those image editing wizards with the artistry to properly utilize Photoshop.
However, it’s likely a lot of the craft of image editing will be accessible to more users in the future, and that’s good news for the internet and the memes that power it.
“Luminar AI will help make image editing easier for everyone. We’ve removed the boring and difficult parts of photo editing without sacrificing creativity. Luminar AI will be a great tool in a creator’s workflow. They can focus on great results — not on the process of editing”.
