‘Hi Speed’ – This is the first 5G-enabled iPhone [video]

The Apple Event is finally here, and with it, the iPhone 12 series. It’s Apple’s second major product launch in 2020; the company confirmed earlier this month that the iPhone 12 showcase would take place on Tuesday 13 October 2020 at 19:00 SAST.

Date, time and theme

Apple confirmed earlier this month their upcoming showcase will take place on Tuesday 15 September 2020 at 10:00 PST (Pacific Time), or 19:00 South African Standard Time (SAST).

If you’re in other parts of the world, that would be 13:00 Eastern Time (EST), 18:00 British Summer Time (BST), 2:00 on Wednesday 16 September Japan Standard Time (JST) and 3:00 Australian Eastern Standard Time (AEST).

The event will be broadcast from Apple Park but held online, due to the novel coronavirus. This year’s event is aptly titled Time Flies, which could be a reference to Apple’s new Watch 6.

The event can also be viewed on Apple’s website. This will be Apple’s third event and second major product launch for the year, following the Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC)in June 2020 and the Time Flies event in September.

For today’s event, we can expect announcements pertaining to the Apple iPhone 12 series. We’ll prepare an in-depth guide of all the announcements after the event.

iPhone 12 Pro recording features

iPhone 12 Pro can edit direct in Dolby Vision. It introduces HDR video recording, meaning you’ll be able to record in 10-bit HDR, 700 million coloors or 60 times more colours than before.

It’s the first camera in the world capable of recording in Dolby Vision HDR. In addition, grade each frame in Dolby Vision live while recording, in 4k at 60fps (frames per second). Remarkable.

19:42 – iPhone 12 Mini

Announced as “something only Apple would do”. Really, though? That said, it’s the “smallest, thinnest and most lightweight iPhone in the world”. It’s equipped with Apple A14 Bionic chip.

19:36 – Apple MagSafe

Apple introduced a new MagSafe charger for the iPhone. The accessories snap onto the back of the iPhone. The MagSafe series includes a charger, case, and a wallet that snaps to the back of your iPhone.

19:28 – Apple A14 Bionic chip

Hope Giles explains just how amazing Apple A14 Bionic truly is. According to Giles, A14 Bionic has 11.8 transistors, nearly 40% more than the A13. Furthermore, the neural engine has 16 cores.

Yep, that’s double from before.

19:20 – Apple iPhone 12 announcement

Kaiann Drance takes the stage to announce the iPhone 12, Apple’s first 5G-enabled phone. The phone is equipped with an aluminum frame featuring flush edges. It will be available in Black, White, Green, Red and Blue.

The iPhone 12 will be “11% thinner, 15% smaller, and 16% lighter”, Drance says.

The Apple iPhone has a dual camera system that consist of a 12MP ultra-wide sensor coupled with a 12MP wide sensor, along with Improved Night Mode, even on the front-facing sensors.

19:14 – 5G announcement

Apple just announced that it would be going the 5G route, working with Verizon’s 5G Ultra Wideband network. It will be introduced across the entire lineup of iPhone 12 models.

Superb download speeds, what’s not to like? Hans Vestberg, Verizon CEO, explains that it “Verizon 5G won’t just be mmWave”.

19:06Apple HomePod Mini

Apple HomePod Mini will be available from 6 November, and will begin to ship out from 16 November 2020. Apple HomePod Mini will cost $99. HomePod mini offers a great music listening experience.

Not only is it an intelligent assistant, it’s also equipped with smart home capabilities and built-in privacy and security. It’s the newest addition to the HomePod family and uses “the intelligence of Siri to get things done”.
