Here’s when horror game ‘The Medium’ will be released [video]

Keeping up with all things spooky, The Medium, a psychological horror game from Blair Witch and Observer developer Bloober Team will be released on Xbox and PC in December.

‘The Medium’ – What you should know

Central theme

CEO Piotr Babieno said, “every one of [Bloober Team’s] games has a central theme that drives it’s creative and technological design”. Babieno had this to say about The Medium’s launch:

“In ‘The Medium’, we focus on perspective and perception. When you change your point of view, you discover that things are more complicated and nuanced than you initially thought. ‘The Medium’ is our most ambitious game ever, and we can’t wait to show you how we’re translating this vision into a psychological horror”.

Plot and storyline

The Medium is an adventure through a dual-reality world that consists of the real world and the spirit world. You play as Marianne, a medium haunted by visions and who exists in both worlds.

The game also features Troy Baker as the antagonist – “the Maw” – and Silent Hill composer Akira Yamaoka lends his expertise to the game. The background score sounds eerily hair-raising.

It will probably be a game I play exclusively in the daylight. The Medium left quite an impression at the Xbox Games Showcase, and it was one of the few games that introduced a completely different game mode.

Dual-reality Gameplay

Players will get to explore and interact with both worlds simultaneously; this is because of Bloober Team’s dual-reality gameplay. Players will also get to use psychic abilities such as an out of body experience move to reach unreachable places.

You can also use telekinesis to create a barrier of defence against the creepy deadly spirits.

When Marianne is searching for clues, a split-screen experience will appear in the game, and this will show how she navigates through the spirit world and the real world simultaneously, creating another layer of chill.

The game will be available for Xbox Series X and Series S, as well as Steam, the Epic Games Store, and the Microsoft Store on 10 December 2020. Preorders are already available for PC versions.
