Huawei’s search engine now available in South Africa

Huawei this week announced a new service, Petal Search, a new mobile-first search engine enabling users to search for apps, news, videos and more.

Petal Search is now available in 170 countries, including South Africa, following the announcement of new developments to the Huawei Mobile Service ecosystem back in October.

“Petal Search […] provides localised search services for users around the world. The search engine pulls up high-quality and relevant results when users look up localised queries. It also provides additional services, such as weather forecast, translation to meet the day-to-day needs of its users”.

The app is supported in more than 50 languages, which allows users to “conveniently and instantly find out the information and services they need”. Here’s what you need to know.

Search simplified

Petal Search integrates Huawei’s AI (artificial intelligence) to enhance a user’s search experience “while also supporting image recognition or Vision searches”.

That means that you could take a photo to search for similar items. In addition, it also offers voice search options, which supports English, Spanish, French, Arabic and more.

This is the ideal search engine for users who are accustomed to an efficient and mobile-centric lifestyle, meaning you’d find the information you need, when you need it.

The new update provides for a visually-rich search experience thanks to the app’s tailor-made information cards. Gone are those boring web links and uninspiring search pages.

Personalised recommendations

Furthermore, it provides personalised recommendation tailored to you, centred around food, travel and shopping; even weather forecasts and search information cards.

“Petal Search offers search capabilities across more than 20 categories, including apps, news, videos, images, shopping, flights, and local business. It also develops and integrates various tools, such as weather, calculator, rate exchange and even paper query to help a user easily obtain daily-used information”.

According to Huawei, Petal Search leverages Huawei devices’ AI (artificial intelligence) capabilities to recognise a wide range of objects, including people, animals, and landmarks.

Do you need a recipe? Simply take a photo of the dish and fire it up in Petal search. The app will, in future, also introduce additional search features, such as the ability to identify plants.

Huawei invites you to “experience innovation, live through wonder”, and be “pleasantly surprised, everyday”.

Huawei Petal search security features

The app is secure and Huawei also guarantees that it adheres to strict privacy and copyright protection standards. Boost your security settings by adding restrictions to filter out illegal content or age-inappropriate content.

Petal Search is now available on Huawei phones and tablets. If you want to know more about the service, visit the Petal Search website for more information.
