Uber Eats Expands into Turkey with $700 Million Acquisition of Trendyol Go
Uber is expanding its presence in Turkey through a recent acquisition.
The ride-hailing and delivery giant has secured an 85% controlling stake in Trendyol Go, an Istanbul-based online meal and grocery delivery service, for around $700 million in cash. This acquisition allows Uber to establish an immediate market presence for Uber Eats in a country where it currently only operates ride-hailing services.
The announcement of this acquisition comes just one day before Uber is expected to release its first-quarter earnings. With consumer spending projected to decline in 2025 due to tariffs enacted by President Trump, investors will be seeking reassurance regarding Uber’s growth prospects, especially after it recently retracted its $950 million bid for Delivery Hero’s Foodpanda business in Taiwan.
Uber has also been laying the groundwork for further expansion into various sectors. It appears that every few weeks, the company announces a new partnership related to autonomous vehicles within its ride-hailing, delivery, and freight operations.
Trendyol Go is the food delivery division of its parent company, Trendyol Group, a predominantly Alibaba-owned e-commerce platform focusing on fashion and retail. The company reported over 200 million orders delivered in 2024, generating $2 billion in gross bookings, marking a 50% increase from the previous year. Its marketplace showcases more than 90,000 restaurants and 19,000 couriers.
The acquisition is expected to finalize in the latter half of 2025. Once completed, users will still utilize the Trendyol Go app, and Uber plans to “introduce key capabilities over the years from Uber Eats.”

Uber’s latest acquisition comes at a time of fierce competition in the U.S., primarily against DoorDash. In February, Uber initiated a lawsuit against DoorDash, alleging unfair competitive practices, while DoorDash has sought the dismissal of this lawsuit.
Earlier today, DoorDash declared two major acquisitions aimed at bolstering its European presence: the U.K.’s Deliveroo for $3.86 billion and SevenRooms for $1.2 billion.
