Amazon Kindle iOS App Launches New ‘Get Book’ Button Following Apple Payments Ruling

A recent judicial decision has mandated that Apple discontinue its 27% commission on transactions made through iPhone applications, enabling Amazon’s Kindle iOS app to introduce a “Get Book” button for simplified book purchases.

“We are constantly improving our apps to ensure we deliver the most user-friendly experience possible,” stated Amazon spokesperson Tim Gillman in an interview with The Verge, which was the first outlet to report on this development. “By selecting ‘Get Book’ in the Kindle for iOS app, customers can now complete their purchases via their mobile web browser.”

Prior to this change, users could not buy titles through the Kindle or Amazon apps, nor could they check their prices.

Amazon is not the only tech giant gaining from this ruling; Spotify also started allowing users to see pricing information and external payment options as of last Friday.

Despite being required to comply with the court’s decision, Apple filed an appeal on Monday, showing its strong opposition to the ruling.
