Figma Launches New AI-Powered Tools for Website Design, App Prototyping, and Marketing Assets

Figma, the design firm, has introduced a variety of new features, such as AI-driven tools for creating websites and web applications, a bulk asset generation tool for marketers, and a cutting-edge drawing tool. This strategy positions Figma to rival creative platforms like Canva and Adobe, as well as AI-enhanced website builders like WordPress, Wix, Hostinger, and Replit.

The new website builder, called Figma Sites, simplifies the workflow for designers typically engaged in site prototyping within Figma. With AI-driven capabilities, they can seamlessly create and launch websites, allowing team members to adjust site components via an editor without assistance.

Users can add transitions, animations, and scrolling effects to ensure site responsiveness. Additionally, Figma is integrating a content management system (CMS) within its Sites tool, enabling users to generate and manage blog posts and other assets, like thumbnails and slugs, directly within the blog design.

For features like stock tickers, users can insert custom code or utilize AI to auto-generate the necessary code.

Figma Make is another AI-focused tool that primarily emphasizes ideation and prototyping. By simply entering a prompt, users can generate a web application, allowing collaboration and requests for element modifications or additions. For teams that include a developer, there is an option to directly edit the prototype’s code.

Moreover, users can create smaller interactive components, such as a clock, which can be embedded into pages that are published through Figma Sites.

Yuki Yamashita, Figma’s chief product officer, mentioned that there is significant overlap among the features and technologies supporting both products.

“We focus on delivering high-fidelity prototyping with Figma, especially through Figma Make. This tool allows you to enhance your prototype with additional data to assess the viability of your concept before final implementation. In contrast, Figma Sites is designed for marketing and design teams that have a clear vision of their site requirements,” Yamashita explained to TechCrunch, underscoring the distinction between the two products.

Numerous organizations across various industries are investigating AI-driven options for creating interactive experiences. Website hosting services like Squarespace, Wix, WordPress, and Hostinger have launched AI-based tools to streamline website creation. Meanwhile, platforms such as Replit and Lovable are allowing users to develop apps or prototypes without coding skills. Recently, Canva also introduced a feature that enables users to create interactive experiences within their designs using Canva Code.

Figma’s foray into prototyping is not a novel endeavor; the company had previously released a Make Design feature that was eventually withdrawn due to user concerns regarding its dependence on existing applications for training.

Moreover, Figma is rolling out a new marketing tool known as Figma Buzz, which assists marketers in leveraging designer-created templates that integrate specific brand designs for generating new creatives. Marketers will also have the option to incorporate AI-generated images or modify existing asset backgrounds, along with the capability to bulk-create numerous assets using data from sources like spreadsheets.

Additionally, Figma is releasing Figma Draw, a tool dedicated to vector editing and illustration. According to Yamashita, designers previously had to export vector designs for external edits, but now the platform introduces functionalities such as text on a path, pattern fills, brushes, multi-vector editing, noise and texture integration, and lasso selections.

Previously, Figma launched its Slides tool for creating presentations. With the introduction of these new asset creation and drawing features, the company is positioned as a serious contender against creative suites like Adobe and Canva. However, Yamashita clarified that the goal is not to compete directly with these tools; rather, Figma focuses on crafting digital products, with about one-third of its user base comprised of developers thanks to offerings like Dev Mode.

Finally, the company revealed a content seat plan priced at $8 per month, granting users access to Figma Buzz, Slides, FigJam, and Sites CMS.
