Elizabeth Holmes’ Partner Reportedly Seeking Investors for New Blood Testing Venture

Billy Evans, partner of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, is introducing a new venture called Haemanthus, aimed at advancing “human health optimization” through blood analysis, according to The New York Times.

The Times spoke with two investors who assessed the startup’s offerings and provided their perspectives on its potential.

As per the details shared, Haemanthus has created a device that employs lasers to examine blood, saliva, and urine samples for identifying cancers and infections. The company plans to initially concentrate on veterinary health before expanding into human health, with a goal of securing over $50 million in funding.

This project bears similarities to Theranos, which misleadingly claimed to conduct multiple medical tests using tiny blood samples taken via finger pricks. Elizabeth Holmes, who has two children with Evans, received an 11-year prison sentence for investor fraud in 2022; however, she has recently reiterated her dedication to “providing affordable healthcare solutions for everyone.”

Jim Breyer, an early investor in Facebook, informed The Times that his team was approached for a potential investment but decided to decline “for many of the same reasons we chose not to invest in Theranos twice.”
