Elizabeth Holmes’ Partner Reportedly Seeking Investors for New Blood Testing Venture
Billy Evans, the partner of Theranos founder Elizabeth Holmes, is embarking on a new project called Haemanthus, which aims to advance “human health optimization” through blood testing, as reported by The New York Times.
The Times interviewed two investors who examined the startup’s material and gained insight into its offerings.
The materials suggest that Haemanthus has developed a device that utilizes lasers to analyze blood, saliva, and urine samples for cancer and infection detection. Initially, the company plans to concentrate on veterinary health before branching out to human applications, aspiring to raise over $50 million in funding.
This endeavor resembles Theranos, which asserted it could carry out various medical tests using minimal blood samples drawn from finger pricks. Elizabeth Holmes, who shares two children with Evans, was sentenced to 11 years in prison for investor fraud in 2022; however, she recently reiterated her commitment to “providing affordable healthcare solutions for everyone.”
Jim Breyer, an early investor in Facebook, informed The Times that his team was approached for investment but opted to decline “for many of the same reasons we turned down Theranos twice.”
