Google Experiments with Changing ‘I’m Feeling Lucky’ to ‘AI Mode’

Google is considering a redesign of its Search homepage, where the newly introduced “AI Mode” from earlier this May may replace the traditional “I’m Feeling Lucky” button situated below the Search bar.

A spokesperson for the company confirmed to The Verge, the first source to report this news, that the feature has begun rolling out to a select group of users within Google’s experimental Labs environment. Nevertheless, there is no assurance that it will become publicly available.

This testing phase arrives just days prior to Google I/O, where major updates to its AI-powered search features are expected to be unveiled.

Changes to Google’s Search homepage are uncommon, but the company may feel pressured to adapt. Recently, an Apple executive testified in court that Google Searches on Safari experienced a decline for the first time last month, attributing this drop to the rise of AI tools like ChatGPT.
