Google I/O 2025: Your Ultimate Guide to AI and Android Streaming Updates

Google is gearing up for its biggest developer event of the year, Google I/O 2025, set to take place on May 20 and 21. CEO Sundar Pichai, DeepMind CEO and co-founder Demis Hassabis, along with leaders from the Search, Cloud, and Android teams, will introduce major updates to Google’s product portfolio.

Google I/O 2025 is expected to place a strong focus on AI (and we really mean strong).

The center of attention is likely to be Google’s collection of AI models, Gemini, as Pichai and Hassabis strive to outpace competitors like OpenAI, xAI, Anthropic, and other well-capitalized challengers. We also anticipate updates on DeepMind’s projects, including its multimodal AI initiative, Project Astra. Last year, Google hinted at smart glasses powered by Project Astra.

A central theme at Google I/O 2025 will be the incorporation of AI across all Google services. For example, Elizabeth Reid, Google’s head of Search, is set to deliver a presentation on the AI stage discussing how generative AI is “transforming search.” Other leaders will explore how scientists are utilizing AI, how AI agents will enhance user experiences, and how Waymo’s self-driving cars utilize AI for navigation.

The keynote for Google I/O 2025 is scheduled to start at 10 a.m. PT on May 20 at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View. You can view a livestream of the keynote here, or catch it through the embedded video below. Afterwards, the developer keynote will begin at 1:30 p.m. PT, focusing more on the developer-oriented aspects.

Later on, at 3:30 p.m. PT, Hassabis will participate in a discussion with Alex Kantrowitz, host of the Big Technology Podcast, about the future of DeepMind’s AI and its worldwide implications. Simultaneously, there will be livestreamed sessions providing the latest updates on Android, Chrome, and Google Cloud.

Although not all presentations at Google I/O will be livestreamed, TechCrunch will be on site to cover the most significant announcements from the conference.
