Notion Launches New Transcription Feature to Compete with AI Notetakers like Granola
The demand for meeting transcription tools is on the rise across productivity suites. Companies such as ClickUp and Zoom have integrated AI-driven transcription and summarization features, entering competition with newcomers in this space, including Read AI, Zoom’s assistant, Circleback, Granola, and Otter.
Notion has recently joined the competition by introducing its own meeting transcription tool. This new feature utilizes AI to transcribe meetings and summarize key discussion points afterward. Users can also take notes while Notion’s AI handles the transcription—similar to Granola’s functionality.
This advancement puts Notion on a path to expand into a comprehensive productivity suite capable of rivaling major tech players like Google and Microsoft.
Like many transcription solutions, Notion’s feature captures audio from the system to create notes. Currently, the AI note taker is available for Mac users (app version 4.7.0). During our testing, we found that the feature was usable only on the desktop version, but Notion has indicated plans to roll it out on mobile as well.

To utilize the AI note-taking feature, simply navigate to any page on Notion and type “/meet.” A dialogue box will prompt you to gather consent from all participants before starting the transcription process. Once consent is obtained, you can click the “Confirm Consent” button to begin.
After clicking “stop,” the notetaking tool will generate a summary using AI. You have the option to select different formatting styles from the three-dot menu, such as Auto, Sales Call, Standup, or Team Meeting.
According to the support documentation, the feature supports over a dozen languages, including English, Chinese, Spanish, French, German, Japanese, Korean, Portuguese, Russian, Thai, Vietnamese, Danish, Finnish, Norwegian, Dutch, and Swedish.

Additionally, Notion is targeting enterprise clients with newly introduced features, such as enterprise search, allowing users to search across Notion and other applications, and a research mode designed to facilitate creating shareable documents through reasoning AI models.
The company mentions that users will be able to leverage Notion AI to ask questions related to their meetings and documents, share content with collaborators, or integrate meeting notes within other workspaces.
These updates aim to establish Notion’s presence beyond its primary notes and documents utility. Earlier this year, the company launched Notion Calendar, and last month it unveiled an AI-powered email client for Gmail, previously teased.
