Facebook to Introduce Passkey Support for Android and iOS Soon

On Wednesday, Facebook announced that it is rolling out passkey support for both iOS and Android devices.

Passkey logins enhance security by making it harder for unauthorized users to access accounts, as they require physical possession of your mobile device. Unlike traditional logins, passkeys use Face ID, Touch ID, a PIN, or a hardware security key for authentication.

With passkeys, there’s no need to rely on combinations of usernames and passwords, which are often susceptible to phishing and similar attacks.

The implementation of passkeys will also extend to Messenger in the coming months, enabling users to utilize the same passkey on both platforms.

Moreover, passkeys can assist in autofilling payment information during transactions made with Meta Pay, as noted by Facebook.

To set up a passkey, go to the new “passkey” option in the Accounts Center within Facebook’s Settings. After configuration, you can use your passkey to log into Facebook on your mobile device. You will still have the option to access your account using other authentication methods, including your password, especially on devices that do not support passkeys.

Facebook joins several tech giants that have introduced passkey support in the past year, including Apple, Microsoft, Amazon, Google, PayPal, TikTok, WhatsApp, X, and GitHub.
