How Synthflow AI Distinguishes Itself in the Competitive AI Voice Market

Since the launch of ChatGPT in November 2022, the conversational AI industry has experienced extraordinary growth, with forecasts suggesting it could approach $50 billion globally by 2031, as reported by MarketsAndMarkets.

One of the key contenders in this field is Synthflow AI, a company aiming to set itself apart by concentrating on enterprise-grade solutions that are simple to implement.

Based in Berlin, Synthflow operates as a no-code platform allowing organizations to develop and deploy customized, white-labeled voice AI customer service agents. Since its founding in 2023, the company has gained over 1,000 clients and has handled more than 45 million calls.

The voice agents created by Synthflow meet HIPAA and GDPR standards and can easily integrate with over 200 enterprise platforms, such as Salesforce, Twilio, and HubSpot.

Hakob Astabatsyan, co-founder and CEO, told TechCrunch that he and co-founders Albert Astabatsyan, the CPO, and Sassun Mirzakhan-Saky, the CTO, began experimenting with OpenAI’s ChatGPT API in early 2023 to explore various no-code business application opportunities.

Initially, they developed a text-to-text AI bot before moving on to voice technology. The complexity involved piqued their interest and passion for the field.

“We became aware of the complexity of voice communication. Achieving AI speech in real time with just 400 milliseconds of latency and managing interruptions was a significant challenge,” Astabatsyan remarked. “We found this challenge fascinating and decided to focus exclusively on voice bots from that moment on.”

The team established Synthflow and spent the rest of 2023 on development, launching the first version of their product in early 2024, followed by an enterprise-grade version by the end of the year. Astabatsyan noted that the company saw a 15-fold increase last year, achieving over 90% retention among its enterprise clients.

“We manage 5 million calls each month,” he stated. “Last year, it was about 1 or 2 million, but our growth took off rapidly. This progress has significantly boosted Synthflow’s performance.”

The startup recently raised $20 million in a Series A funding round led by Accel, with contributions from existing investors Atlantic Labs and Singular. Astabatsyan mentioned that this funding will be directed towards team expansion, enhancing research and development, and opening their first U.S. office at a yet-to-be-determined location.

Luca Bocchio, an Accel partner, noted to TechCrunch that his firm has been monitoring Synthflow since the early stages of product development. He expressed admiration for the founding team’s ambition and their initial focus on creating enterprise-friendly integrations.

“This team has consistently demonstrated a clear vision aimed at advancing technology and establishing extensive integrations across CRMs and other tools used by enterprises to ensure compliance at an enterprise level,” Bocchio remarked.

Nonetheless, even with the company’s progress, the conversational AI landscape remains competitive, with other firms such as Bret Taylor’s Sierra, which has raised $285 million in venture capital, and Bland AI, securing over $50 million in funding.

“AI is evolving swiftly, and advancements can occur faster than expected,” Astabatsyan reflected. “However, we believe we are now in a post-product-market-fit phase, having identified our target customers and established a robust product roadmap for the next three to five years.”
