In Just Three Months, CoreWeave’s CEO Rises from Crypto-Mining Enthusiast to Deca-Billionaire
Bloomberg reports that Michael Intrator, co-founder and CEO of CoreWeave, has witnessed a dramatic increase in his net worth to around $10 billion just three months after the AI company went public.
CoreWeave’s market entry marks the largest tech IPO of 2025, attracting $1.5 billion, although this fell short of the founders’ aspirations of up to $4 billion, prompting a reassessment of their goals.
The company’s success is mixed; it focuses on AI training and inference cloud services, leveraging an expanding inventory of Nvidia GPUs, with Nvidia itself investing to ensure access to these valuable chips.
CoreWeave counts both Microsoft and OpenAI among its clients, the latter having inked a $12 billion service agreement, with about $11 billion still available for purchase. Furthermore, Nvidia has increased its investment following the IPO, as revealed by the company.
Nonetheless, CoreWeave finances its GPU acquisitions through loans, and the IPO earnings have not alleviated this burden. As of March, the company reported a debt of approximately $8.8 billion, with interest rates soaring to 15%. Despite generating nearly $1 billion in revenue in the first quarter ($985 million), it sustained a net loss of about $315 million.
This has not dissuaded investors, eager to leverage growth in the AI domain. Since its IPO in March, CoreWeave’s share price has jumped nearly 300%, elevating Intrator’s net worth to over $10 billion, according to Bloomberg.
An interesting facet of Intrator and his co-founders, Brian Venturo and Brannin McBee, is that their journey began with a quick-profit venture in cryptocurrency mining after their previous hedge fund collapsed.
The partners evolved from operating in a cramped closet filled with GPUs to a large warehouse in New Jersey, eventually spearheading an AI training project with the open-source LLM group EleutherAI, previously shared by Venturo with TechCrunch.
Now, they serve major LLM players worldwide and are reportedly pursuing the acquisition of competitor Core Scientific, with all three founders becoming billionaires. Notably, each cashed out over $150 million by selling shares ahead of the IPO.
CoreWeave embodies the AI industry’s dynamics in 2025: marked by explosive revenue growth and investor enthusiasm fueled by relentless resource demand.
