OpenAI Revises Salaries to Compete with Meta’s Hiring Strategies
After Meta’s successful recruitment of several senior researchers, an executive from OpenAI reportedly reassured staff members on Saturday that the leadership hasn’t just been “passively observing.”
“I’m feeling an intense wave of emotion, as if our field has been compromised and something precious has been lost,” expressed Chief Research Officer Mark Chen in a Slack message obtained by Wired.
In response to the significant hiring surge at Meta, Chen highlighted that he, along with CEO Sam Altman and other OpenAI leaders, has been actively reaching out to individuals contemplating new job opportunities. He pointed out their heightened efforts in reassessing compensation and exploring innovative methods to recognize and reward outstanding talent.
Recently, various news outlets reported that eight researchers have transitioned from OpenAI to Meta. Altman even expressed his worries during a podcast about Meta allegedly offering “$100 million signing bonuses,” a claim that Meta executives have reportedly contested internally.
