Spotify Refreshes Discover Weekly Playlist in Honor of Its 10th Anniversary

Spotify’s Discover Weekly playlist, a popular source for fresh music suggestions every Monday, is gearing up for an exciting enhancement.

A decade after the debut of Discover Weekly (time really does fly!), Spotify Premium subscribers will soon notice new features at the top of the playlist that will allow them to customize their music recommendations by specific genres. For example, if you love 80s rock and are intrigued by K-pop, you can apply different genre filters to shape the algorithm’s suggestions.

This new feature is designed to give users greater control over the diverse range of new music they wish to explore in their Discover Weekly playlists.

According to Spotify, over 100 billion tracks have been streamed through Discover Weekly, with a remarkable 77% of those streams going to up-and-coming artists.

To experience the upgraded Discover Weekly, Spotify Premium members should navigate to the “Made for You” section to find their Discover Weekly playlist. Users with the most recent version of Spotify will see the newly introduced genre controls.

In a landscape often dominated by algorithmic recommendations, Spotify has been implementing features aimed at offering listeners more agency over their music choices. Recently, an enhanced queue feature was introduced, allowing users to preview upcoming suggestions and choose which songs they’d like to retain. Additionally, listeners can now “snooze” tracks they want to skip, temporarily setting them aside for thirty days without permanently removing them from their playlists.
