Meta Restructures AI Division Under ‘Superintelligence Labs’
Mark Zuckerberg, the CEO of Meta, is restructuring the company’s AI efforts to emphasize the development of AI “superintelligence.”
According to a recent internal memo reviewed by Bloomberg, all AI teams within Meta will now be consolidated into a new division named Meta Superintelligence Labs.
Leading this new division will be Alexandr Wang, the former CEO of the data labeling firm Scale AI, who will serve as chief AI officer. He will work alongside Nat Friedman, the previous CEO of GitHub, who will oversee Meta’s AI products and applied research, as noted by Bloomberg.
Zuckerberg has been proactive in positioning Meta as a leader in the artificial general intelligence (AGI) race, primarily through acquiring AI companies and talent from top AI organizations. Earlier this month, Meta invested $14.3 billion in Scale AI, which included the acquisition of Wang.
Furthermore, as reported, Zuckerberg has successfully recruited 11 new AI researchers from competing companies, including some notable hires like Pei Sun, a principal researcher from Google DeepMind, and engineer Joel Pobar from Anthropic.
