Hisense SA Collaborates with DTIC for Exciting E-Commerce Launch in South Africa

Johannesburg – Hisense SA has been recognized by the Proudly South African initiative as a vital strategic ally in its nationwide endeavor to boost local manufacturing, create jobs, and strengthen South Africa’s economy through innovative homegrown production.

The company received accolades for its role in local manufacturing during the launch of Proudly SA’s business-to-consumer online platform, aptly named Shop Proudly SA.

This event, in collaboration with the Department of Trade, Industry and Competition (DTIC), also introduced a business-to-business (B2B) online platform known as the Market Access Platform (MAP).

The MAP was developed to aid corporate buyers in meeting their localization targets by providing access to a database of over 2,000 vetted businesses across various sectors.

These companies have been certified and approved by the Proudly South African initiative, with Hisense SA among them.

Aligned with Proudly SA’s objectives to bolster localization, Hisense SA stands out not only as a leader in global technology but also as a strong presence in South Africa.

Since its establishment in 1996, Hisense SA has made substantial investments in the local economy, including a R350 million state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Atlantis, Cape Town.

The factory has the capacity to produce up to 500,000 refrigerators and one million televisions each year, serving both local and export markets, with products available in over 3,500 stores nationwide and exported to more than 10 countries in Southern Africa.

A noteworthy milestone for Hisense SA is the launch of South Africa’s largest television – the groundbreaking 116-inch UX TV.

As part of its ongoing localization strategy, Hisense continues to upgrade its manufacturing capabilities to provide high-quality, large-format displays to South African consumers and beyond.

“Our vision has always been to create more than just electronics – we aspire to build futures,” stated Alex Chen, Brand Marketing Manager at Hisense SA.

“By manufacturing locally and enhancing our export capabilities, we aim to uplift local communities, cultivate high-value skills, and ensure that South African consumers have access to top-quality technology made on home ground.”

Minister of Trade, Industry and Competition, Parks Tau, noted: “At the core of our industrialization agenda is a fundamental truth: we must build local, buy local, and support local.

“Localisation is not just a policy choice; it is a national necessity for job creation, industrial progress, and economic independence.”

This acknowledgment by the Proudly South African initiative aligns perfectly with Hisense SA’s broader localization strategy, which aims to encourage supplier development, foster enterprise growth, and create employment along the technology and manufacturing value chain.

As e-commerce continues to flourish with new digital procurement platforms like Shop Proudly SA and its Market Access Platform (MAP), Hisense SA is strategically poised to significantly contribute to local value chains and fulfill the procurement objectives of both private and public sector entities.

In an increasingly competitive global landscape, the collaboration between Hisense SA and Proudly SA represents a shared dedication to economic sustainability, job creation, and homegrown excellence.
