Meta Accused of Utilizing Actual Tents in Data Center Construction

Meta and CEO Mark Zuckerberg are in a race to advance their superintelligence technology. The company has been actively recruiting AI researchers, and Zuckerberg recently announced the establishment of a 5-gigawatt data center dubbed Hyperion.

The urgency is clear. As reported by SemiAnalysis last week and emphasized by Business Insider, Meta is so eager to boost its computing capabilities that it is setting up tents for temporary data center space while its facilities are still under construction.

These measures reflect Meta’s commitment to rapidly enhancing its AI capabilities, especially after falling behind rivals like OpenAI, xAI, and Google, with Zuckerberg demonstrating a readiness to bypass conventional construction timelines to close the gap.

“This design prioritizes speed over aesthetics or redundancy. The goal is to get computing resources operational as swiftly as possible!” SemiAnalysis noted in its report. “From prefabricated power and cooling systems to lightweight structures, time is of the essence as there’s no backup generation (e.g., no diesel generators in sight),” they added.

Regarding the Hyperion data center, Meta representative Ashley Gabriel told TechCrunch that it will be located in Louisiana, with an expected capacity of 2 gigawatts by 2030.
