‘Utopian’ City: California Forever Introduces Plans for a Vast Tech Manufacturing Park

On Thursday, California Forever unveiled plans for a massive manufacturing hub called Solano Foundry, the latest addition to its ambitious “utopian” city backed by a group of Silicon Valley billionaires.

Covering 2,100 acres, Solano Foundry will feature 40 million square feet dedicated to advanced technology manufacturing. CEO Jan Sramek shared that this facility will be part of a walkable community with over 175,000 homes during his talk at the Reindustrialize conference in Detroit.

Sramek further emphasized that U.S. manufacturers can’t thrive by “building factories at random freeway exits in secluded areas, as top talent is reluctant to work there.”

He noted that the site will offer efficient permitting, effective transportation for finished goods, and plenty of renewable energy sources. The goal is to attract talent in hardware, engineering, and AI from the nearby Silicon Valley, with Solano County situated about 40 miles northeast of San Francisco.
