Orange Notifies Customers of Service Disruptions Amid Ongoing Cyberattack

Orange, a leading telecommunications company based in France and one of the foremost phone service providers globally, announced on Monday that it has experienced a cyberattack, the specifics of which remain undisclosed.

In its statement, the company reported that it discovered a cyberattack “on one of its information systems” on July 25, leading to measures to “isolate potentially affected services and reduce any damage.”

As per the company’s announcement, the isolation of affected systems has resulted in service disruptions across various platforms, affecting business clients and some public sector services, primarily in France. The company noted that it is taking steps to gradually restore services by Wednesday, assuring that “there is no evidence indicating any internal or customer data has been compromised.”

Orange did not respond to TechCrunch’s request for comment, which included inquiries about the specifics of the cyberattack and the company’s technical abilities to detect any data breaches.

In its announcement, the organization stated that it is in communication with affected clients and has filed a complaint with “relevant authorities,” although further details were not provided. Companies in Europe that are under GDPR regulations are required to notify their local data protection authorities within three days of a suspected data breach.

The company boasts a customer base of 291 million across 26 countries and employs 127,000 individuals.
