Google Now Lets You Select Your Preferred Sources for Search Results

Google has launched a new feature known as “Preferred Sources” in the U.S. and India. This feature allows users to select their preferred news outlets and blogs to appear prominently in the Top Stories section of Google search results. According to the company, enabling this feature gives users greater access to content from their chosen sources.

When users search for a particular topic, a “star” icon will appear next to the Top Stories section. By clicking this icon, users can search for and include their favorite sources.

Once users have selected their sources, they can refresh the results to view more content from those sites. Google mentioned that for specific queries, a unique “From your sources” section may appear right below the Top Stories section.

This feature allows users to obtain information from their selected sources but could also foster an ideological bubble, limiting the diversity of perspectives on various topics.

Originally launched as an experimental feature in Search Labs, users had to opt-in for access. During the trial period, the company found that over half of the participants chose four or more sources.

This feature is now being officially rolled out to all users searching in English in the U.S. and India.
