In a World of Vibe-Coding Startups, Uno Platform Targets Enterprise Developers

While new AI-powered low-code development platforms emerge to cater to hobbyists and non-technical users, Uno Platform is dedicating its efforts to enterprise developers instead.

Located in Montreal, Uno Platform offers a suite of enterprise-grade tools that allow developers to build cross-platform .NET applications compatible with Android, Apple, Linux, and Windows. By coding an application just once, Uno Platform streamlines the deployment of various application types from the same codebase.

“When you write code once and it functions across five different platforms—desktop, web, and mobile—you’re already achieving a 5x productivity boost,” stated Francois Tanguay, co-founder and CEO of Uno Platform, during an interview with TechCrunch.

Despite the presence of other app development platforms, Tanguay insists that Uno Platform stands out in a saturated market filled with vibe coding tools like Lovable and Cursor. He highlights the need for enterprise developers to have access to tools that enhance productivity.

“Everything we’re offering is groundbreaking, and we have a clear plan to introduce capabilities that could make everyone 10x faster,” Tanguay noted. “No one has captured that market within the enterprise sector yet.”

This two-year-old startup’s focus on enterprise solutions has drawn interest from both customers and investors. Uno Platform recently completed a C$3.5 million ($2.54 million) seed funding round, co-led by AQC Capital and Desjardins Capital, with contributions from Scott Hanselman, Microsoft’s vice president of the developer community, along with other angel investors.

The funding will support the launch of Uno Platform Studio, its premium toolset, and introduce a feature called “Hot Design,” which allows developers to pause an application in real-time to modify its user interface.

According to Tanguay, the goal was to create Uno Platform to be as straightforward and accommodating as collaborating with a consulting agency, reflecting the company’s beginnings.

Tanguay founded Nventive in 2008 as a consulting agency focused on application development during the rise of mobile apps. Over time, Nventive began developing the toolkit that would evolve into Uno Platform, aimed at boosting its efficiency, Tanguay explained.

Uno Platform was launched as an open-source toolbox in 2018, inviting the open-source community to help the agency keep up with the rapidly changing operating systems that often required updates to Uno Platform’s tools.

“We have exceeded a hundred million downloads of the platform, an achievement we wouldn’t have reached alone,” Tanguay remarked. “Investing in the open-source community was a strategic choice to foster that growth and trust that others would see the value in using such a toolbox.”

Tanguay’s strategy has proven effective, as the company now has over 300 open-source contributors. Nventive fully spun off the toolbox, officially launching Uno Platform in 2023. Since then, they have collaborated with enterprise clients like Toyota, Microsoft, and TradeZero, among others.
