Instagram is developing a new feature to help users find shared interests.
Instagram is working on a feature called “Picks” aimed at helping users discover shared interests. The Meta-owned platform confirmed to TechCrunch that Picks is currently an internal prototype and is not in external testing.
This feature was first uncovered by reverse engineer Alessandro Paluzzi, who is known for revealing unreleased features during their development.
Screenshots shared by Paluzzi suggest that users will have the option to select their favorite movies, books, TV shows, games, and music—termed their “Picks.” Instagram will subsequently showcase common picks among friends who have made similar selections.
Although Instagram has not disclosed specific details about this feature, it appears that the company aims to use Picks as a means to foster deeper connections among friends and spark discussions about shared interests.
Earlier this year, Instagram’s head Adam Mosseri stated that the social network plans to prioritize creativity and connection in 2025. “To help people connect with friends over the discoveries they make on Instagram, we are committed to improving messaging, enhancing content interaction, and exploring new ways to bond with friends,” Mosseri noted in a January post on Instagram.
Nonetheless, it’s probable that not all users will welcome the arrival of Picks, as it introduces yet another feature to an already busy app. Instagram is facing backlash following the debut of Instagram Map, with many users expressing disapproval of the new feature.
As with any feature still under development, the timeline for an official launch of Picks remains uncertain.
