US Government Reportedly Evaluating Investment in Intel

The Trump administration continues to engage with semiconductor giant Intel.

According to Bloomberg, the U.S. government is negotiating to acquire a stake in Intel. This collaboration aims to enhance the company’s manufacturing capabilities in the U.S., especially regarding its anticipated Ohio chip plant.

This update comes after President Donald Trump recently called for Intel CEO Lip-Bu Tan to resign due to purported conflicts of interest. Trump did not elaborate, although it coincides with a letter from Republican U.S. Senator Tom Cotton to Intel’s board expressing concerns about Tan’s ties to China.

Tan met with the Trump administration on August 11 to address concerns and discuss potential collaborative efforts. Reports indicate that this meeting sparked conversations about the U.S. government acquiring a direct interest in the company, as mentioned by Bloomberg.

Intel chose to remain silent on the matter.

“Intel is fully dedicated to supporting President Trump’s initiatives to strengthen U.S. technology and manufacturing leadership,” stated an Intel representative. “We look forward to continuing our partnership with the Trump Administration to achieve these shared goals, but we prefer not to comment on rumors or speculation.”
