GPT-5 Aims to Enhance User Experience

On Friday, OpenAI announced that it is improving its latest model to be “warmer and friendlier.”

The highly anticipated GPT-5 has just been released, with CEO Sam Altman admitting that the launch has been “somewhat bumpier than expected,” as some users expressed a preference for the previous model, GPT-4o.

In light of this feedback, OpenAI is making updates that it describes as “subtle,” aimed at making GPT-5 “more approachable now.”

“You’ll encounter genuine phrases like ‘Good question’ or ‘Great start,’ instead of insincere flattery,” the company highlighted in a social media post. “Internal testing shows no increase in sycophancy compared to prior GPT-5 behavior.”

In a dinner meeting with journalists earlier this week, OpenAI executives aimed to share the company’s vision beyond GPT-5; however, as noted by Max Zeff, the troubled launch dominated the discussion. Regarding the model’s friendliness, VP Nick Turley remarked that GPT-5 had been “very to the point,” but the new update seeks to enhance its warmth, as previously mentioned.
