GPT-5: Dedicated to Enhancing User Experience
On Friday, OpenAI announced new initiatives aimed at improving their latest model, emphasizing a “warmer and friendlier” user experience.
The long-awaited GPT-5 has been launched, though CEO Sam Altman admitted that the release faced “some unexpected hurdles,” with a number of users still favoring the previous model, GPT-4o.
In response to this feedback, OpenAI is rolling out updates termed as “subtle,” working to make GPT-5 “more approachable” in future iterations.
“You can look forward to hearing authentic phrases like ‘Good question’ or ‘Great start,’ rather than just empty compliments,” the company stated in a social media post. “Internal evaluations show no rise in sycophantic responses compared to prior GPT-5 engagements.”
At a dinner with journalists this week, OpenAI’s leadership sought to convey the company’s vision that goes beyond GPT-5. However, as Max Zeff pointed out, the challenging launch overshadowed their message. Reflecting on the model’s functionality, VP Nick Turley mentioned that while GPT-5 has been “very direct,” the latest update aims to enhance its warmth, consistent with earlier discussions.
