Bay Coach Builds Confidence from Last Season’s Victories Against the Chiefs
Co-coach Ronnie Gabriel of Richards Bay recognizes the difficulties presented by their upcoming away match against Kaizer Chiefs at FNB Stadium on Tuesday, while also seeking inspiration from the team’s achievements last season.
In the previous season, the Natal Rich Boys triumphed over Chiefs in both home and away fixtures, which was vital for clinching their first-ever top-eight finish.
Unfortunately, their current season has gotten off to a rocky start; they have faced defeats in both of their initial league matches and are now positioned in 15th place with zero points.
The losses occurred against Marumo Gallants and Golden Arrows, both matches played at their home ground. Furthermore, the KwaZulu-Natal side suffered a significant 4-0 loss to Mamelodi Sundowns in the MTN8 quarter-finals.
Conversely, the Glamour Boys have made a strong start, winning their first two matches without allowing any goals.
Gabriel intends to draw upon the motivation from their previous triumphs against Chiefs for the upcoming encounter. “We need to reflect on our past performances against Chiefs, rekindle those emotions, and trust that we can go there and succeed,” he emphasized.
“In our last match, we defeated Chiefs at home, so it’s crucial to revisit our strategies and use that as motivation to show our ability to compete away from home and aim for a positive result.”
Despite the recognizing the upcoming challenges, Gabriel remains optimistic. “Playing against Chiefs away is always difficult, and it’s a significant match, so we must prepare thoroughly,” he remarked.
