On Tuesday, Meta announced the global rollout of an AI-driven voice translation feature for all users on Facebook and Instagram.
This new capability, accessible in any region where Meta AI operates, empowers creators to translate their content into different languages, broadening their audience reach.
Initially unveiled at Meta’s Connect developer conference last year, the feature was highlighted for pilot testing automatic voice translations in reels on Facebook and Instagram.
According to Meta, the AI translations will capture the creator’s unique sound and tone, ensuring a more authentic dubbing experience when converting content to another language.
Moreover, creators can use an optional lip-sync feature, enhancing the authenticity by matching the translation to their lip movements.

At launch, the feature facilitates translations between English and Spanish, with plans to incorporate additional languages in the future. These AI translations will be available to Facebook creators with 1,000 or more followers and all public Instagram accounts worldwide, wherever Meta AI is in operation.
To utilize this feature, creators can select “Translate your voice with Meta AI” prior to posting their reel. They can toggle the translation option and decide whether to enable lip syncing. Once they click “Share now” to publish, the translation will be activated automatically.
Creators can preview translations and lip syncs before making them public, and either option can be disabled at any time. (Declining the translation will not affect the original reel, as stated by the company.) Viewers of the translated reel will see a notification below indicating it was translated using Meta AI. Users who prefer not to view translated reels in certain languages can adjust this in their settings menu.

Creators will also find a new metric in their Insights panel, revealing views categorized by language. This tool will assist them in understanding how their content reaches diverse audiences through translations—becoming increasingly beneficial as more languages are supported moving forward.
Meta advises creators to face forward, speak clearly, and avoid covering their mouth during recording for optimal results. Reducing background noise or music is also beneficial. The feature currently accommodates up to two speakers, who should not speak over one another for effective translation.
Additionally, Facebook creators can upload up to 20 of their own dubbed audio tracks to a reel, helping expand their audience beyond English or Spanish speakers. This option is available in the “Closed captions and translations” section of the Meta Business Suite, allowing translations to be added both pre- and post-publication—unlike the AI feature.

Meta mentions that support for additional languages will be forthcoming, although specific details on which languages will be added or their expected rollout timeline have not been provided.
“We see numerous amazing creators out there with potential audiences who may not share the same language,” stated Adam Mosseri, head of Instagram, in an Instagram post. “By assisting you in reaching audiences that speak different languages and bridging cultural and linguistic gaps, we can help you expand your following and derive more value from Instagram and the platform.”
The introduction of this AI feature arrives at a time when reports indicate that Meta is restructuring its AI team to focus on four core areas: research, superintelligence, products, and infrastructure.
