Nvidia Allegedly Creating Enhanced AI Chip for Release in China

The world’s top chip manufacturer continues to see China as a crucial market for growth. As reported by anonymous sources to Reuters, Nvidia is in the process of developing a new AI chip aimed at the Chinese market, expected to be half as powerful as its flagship B300 Blackwell GPU.

This new chip, referred to as B30A, is anticipated to surpass the H20 GPUs that Nvidia is allowed to sell in China, according to the report. Its design will feature a single-die configuration, unlike the dual-die architecture found in the more powerful B300 GPUs. The B30A is expected to include similar capabilities to the H20, such as fast data transfer, NVLink support, and high-bandwidth memory.

Reports indicate that the development of the B30A is separate from another chip Nvidia is allegedly creating for the Chinese market.

“We assess a range of products for our roadmap, ensuring we are prepared to compete within the constraints set by governments. Every product we provide is fully authorized by the relevant authorities and specifically designed for beneficial commercial use,” Nvidia said in an email.

This news follows the recent easing of restrictions by the Trump administration on chip manufacturers exporting advanced AI chips to China; however, Reuters mentions that approval for this new chip is still uncertain.

As geopolitical tensions escalate between Beijing and Washington, fueled by the race for AI dominance, critics contend that the U.S. must safeguard its technological advantage by managing its supply chain to China. Nevertheless, Nvidia and its rivals argue that retreating from the lucrative Chinese market to competitors like Huawei would mean complete surrender.
