Google Unveils AI-Powered Personal Health and Fitness Coach for Fitbit
At its Made by Google event on Wednesday, the company unveiled a new AI-powered personal health coach leveraging Gemini technology, which will be available on Fitbit. This cutting-edge coach serves as a fitness trainer, sleep consultant, and wellness advisor all in one.
Google plans to roll out a preview of this personal health coach within Fitbit Premium starting in October, integrated into the updated app that works with the latest Fitbit devices, smartwatches, and Pixel Watches.
The personal health coach tailors itself to your preferences as you share them and utilizes real-time metrics from your Fitbit or Pixel Watch. It can also collect data from smart scales and glucose monitors.

With the AI coach, users can create a personalized regimen by discussing their goals, preferences, and available equipment. The coach will generate a customized fitness plan that includes specific workout recommendations and targets. As you participate in workouts, the coach will adjust your plans based on real-time data and insights to help you reach your objectives.
For example, if you wake up with a low readiness score following a restless night, the coach will suggest modifications to your weekly agenda to aid in your recovery.
Should unforeseen circumstances interfere with your scheduled plans, you can interact with the AI coach to make adjustments and receive tailored guidance. For instance, if you encounter a back injury, you can inform the coach to revise your workout strategy accordingly.

Moreover, the AI coach will evaluate your sleep habits and offer insights aimed at enhancing sleep quality progressively. Google has indicated that new sophisticated algorithms will improve the coach’s capacity to understand users’ sleep duration and stages. The coach will also help users identify their ideal sleep needs for optimal performance, adjusting schedules to align with daily activity levels.

Users can engage the AI coach for personalized, research-backed answers. For instance, they can pose questions such as, “Should I focus on getting an extra hour of sleep or work out tomorrow?” or “What are effective exercises for losing weight?”
The new AI coach will be seamlessly integrated into the redesigned Fitbit app, which has been revamped with a focus on coaching and AI capabilities. This updated app will feature improved data visualization, enhanced syncing features, dark mode, and much more.
Additionally, Google announced that NBA star Stephen Curry will be involved as a “performance advisor” to provide insights regarding the company’s products.
