Google Unveils Pixel Watch 4 with Curved Display and Satellite Emergency Features

At the Made by Google event on Wednesday, the tech innovator unveiled its newest smartwatch, the Pixel Watch 4. This device features a curved display, satellite communication support, enhanced health and fitness tracking, along with several additional capabilities.

The 41mm Pixel Watch 4 is priced starting at $349 for the Wi-Fi model and $449 for LTE, while the 45mm variant begins at $399 for Wi-Fi and $499 for LTE.

Featuring an Actua 360 display, the watch presents a physically curved design, offering a 10% increase in the active area and an edge-to-edge appearance with 16% slimmer bezels. Additionally, it showcases a 50% brighter 3,000 nit display.

The LTE models of the Pixel Watch 4 are equipped with standalone emergency satellite communication capabilities, allowing users to connect with emergency services via geostationary satellites, even in remote locations. Google indicates that this functionality is driven by the Qualcomm Snapdragon W5 Gen 2 Wearable Platform.

Users can access Gemini effortlessly by raising their wrist, eliminating the need for button presses or voice commands like “Hey Google.” This functionality is designed to aid users in multitasking, such as when they are carrying groceries or walking their dog. The watch also features improved AI capabilities, like Smart Replies, which offer personalized, AI-generated responses based on the user’s interactions.

Additionally, Google announced a 25% increase in battery life when compared to its predecessor, providing up to 30 hours for the 41mm model and 40 hours for the 45mm version. The new Pixel Watch 4 also comes with an updated fast-charging dock.

The Pixel Watch 4 is water-resistant up to 50 meters and marks the first instance where users can replace the battery and display.

The tech innovator emphasizes the watch’s superior performance, equipped with Google’s next-gen ML-driven co-processor that functions 25% faster while consuming only half the energy.

In terms of health and fitness tracking, Google noted that the Pixel Watch 4 offers 18% more accuracy in identifying complete sleep cycles and can track the duration spent in each phase of sleep. Additionally, a new Skin Temperature sensor can monitor changes in well-being.

Also, the upgraded dual-frequency GPS on the Pixel Watch 4 enhances route tracking accuracy, even in difficult settings such as urban environments or dense forests.

Furthermore, if users forget to start a workout on their watch, the AI will automatically detect and categorize their activities. New workout modes, including basketball and pickleball, have been introduced as well.

In addition, Google is launching a personal AI health coach that offers fitness and sleep recommendations based on users’ metrics collected from the Pixel Watch. This feature is designed to provide a 24/7 AI health coach on the wearer’s wrist, delivering personalized advice based on individual goals. Users can ask questions such as, “Is this cold plunge beneficial for me?” or “What’s the best way to combat jet lag?”

Google is rolling out a preview of this health coach for Fitbit device owners and Pixel Watch users in the U.S. this October.

Currently, the Pixel Watch 4 is available for preorder and will officially launch on October 9.
