Report: Meta Pauses AI Hiring After Recent Talent Acquisition Boom
According to The Wall Street Journal, Meta has paused hiring within its AI division following a recent organizational restructuring. This move comes after the company onboarded over 50 AI researchers and engineers from competing firms in recent weeks.
The hiring freeze, which started last week, has an uncertain timeline. Meta appears to be adjusting to its reorganization, which has split its AI division, Meta Superintelligence Labs, into four separate teams: TBD Labs, headed by former Scale AI founder Alexandr Wang, along with three teams focused on research, product integration, and infrastructure.
Meta confirmed the hiring freeze to The Journal, attributing it to “basic organizational planning…after onboarding new hires and engaging in annual budgeting and planning activities.”
CEO Mark Zuckerberg’s quest for an advantage in the AI market has sparked fierce competition for talent. He has personally contacted top researchers and engineers with compensation packages that exceed nine figures and has either acquired startups or their leadership teams. Analysts have warned that rising expenses linked to stock-based compensation could threaten returns for shareholders.
