IBM and AMD Seek to Regain Momentum in Quantum Computing Following Setbacks in Generative AI
IBM and AMD are joining forces to develop cutting-edge computing architectures that integrate IBM’s quantum systems with AMD’s AI-optimized processors. This collaboration could establish both the tech giant and chip producer as key players in the infrastructure sector, particularly as they work to rebound from challenges faced during the rise of generative AI.
Together, IBM and AMD will aim to launch a commercially viable quantum computing architecture — one that is both scalable and open source. This strategy will improve access for researchers and developers addressing complex, real-world issues in fields such as drug discovery, materials science, optimization, and logistics, as per IBM’s statements.
“Quantum computing will provide simulations of the natural world and represent information in an entirely novel fashion,” said Arvind Krishna, chairman and CEO of IBM. “By exploring the synergy between IBM’s quantum computers and AMD’s advanced high-performance computing technologies, we strive to develop a robust hybrid model that surpasses traditional computing limits.”
