OpenAI Unveils AI-Powered Hiring Platform to Rival LinkedIn
OpenAI is reportedly developing an AI-driven recruitment platform intended to connect businesses with prospective employees, positioning the company in direct competition with LinkedIn. This new platform, known as the OpenAI Jobs Platform, is anticipated to be launched by mid-2026, according to a statement from an OpenAI representative to TechCrunch.
Fidji Simo, OpenAI’s CEO of Applications, outlined this initiative in a blog post on Thursday, highlighting the company’s goal to “leverage AI to identify ideal matches between company needs and employee skills.” Simo noted that the platform will include a dedicated track for small businesses and local governments in search of high-quality AI talent.
OpenAI seeks to broaden its focus beyond its primary consumer product, ChatGPT. During a recent dinner with journalists, OpenAI CEO Sam Altman indicated that Simo would oversee several applications beyond the chatbot, including the OpenAI Jobs Platform and potentially other projects in the pipeline, such as a web browser and a social media site.
The OpenAI hiring platform could notably position the company as a direct rival to LinkedIn, co-founded by Reid Hoffman, an early investor in OpenAI. LinkedIn is also a Microsoft subsidiary, which is OpenAI’s largest financial backer.
In the past year, LinkedIn has been proactively upgrading its platform with AI features to enhance the matching process between job seekers and companies.
Furthermore, OpenAI intends to roll out certifications for different levels of “AI fluency” through its OpenAI Academy, an online program launched last year. An OpenAI spokesperson shared that a pilot of the OpenAI Certifications is projected for release in late 2025.
Many tech industry leaders have voiced concerns about AI’s potential to disrupt various traditional roles. Anthropic CEO Dario Amodei has posited that AI could eliminate as much as 50% of entry-level white-collar jobs by 2030. In her blog post, Simo acknowledged this issue, stating that while OpenAI cannot avert such disruptions, it can assist individuals in becoming adept at AI and help them connect with companies in need of their skills.
