Snapchat Introduces Innovative Lens for AI Image Generation from Text Prompts
Snapchat is launching a new Lens that enables users to create and modify images with a text-to-image AI tool, as per an exclusive report by TechCrunch. This revolutionary “Imagine Lens” is accessible to Snapchat+ Platinum and Lens+ subscribers.
With the Imagine Lens, users can generate, edit, and alter Snaps by simply inputting their own prompts. Once an image is created, they can share it with friends, add it to their Story, or share it outside of the Snapchat platform.
While Snapchat features various generative AI Lenses, the company highlights that Imagine Lens is the first to offer open-prompt image generation.
Users can create images based on specific requests, such as “generate an image of a grumpy cat” or “transform me into an alien.” The Lens also includes preset prompts like “Transform me into a four to five-panel comic with a surprising yet heroic twist,” “Create a humorous caricature of me,” and “Depict this person skydiving.”
Snapchat allows users to effortlessly tap the caption bar to adjust their prompts as needed.
Earlier this year, Snap introduced an AI text-to-image research model for mobile devices to improve future Snapchat capabilities. While Snap has not confirmed if this model is utilized for the new Lens, it has stated that its Lenses are developed using both proprietary models and leading industry AI technologies.
Subscribers to Snapchat+ Platinum and Lens+ can find the new Lens at the start of the Lens Carousel or within the Exclusive category. After selecting, users can click on the caption to enter or alter their prompt. A Platinum subscription costs $15.99 per month, while Lens+ is priced at $8.99 per month.
