Microsoft Reports Azure Downtime Caused by Undersea Cable Cuts in the Red Sea

On Saturday, Microsoft revealed that users of its Azure cloud service could encounter increased latency due to the disruption of several undersea cables in the Red Sea, as reported by Bloomberg.

In a recent status update, the company noted that traffic moving through the Middle East or ending in Asia or Europe had been affected. However, they did not provide details on the identities or reasons for the cable severing.

“Repairing undersea fiber can take a significant amount of time, so we will continue to monitor, rebalance, and optimize routing to reduce the impact on our customers during this period,” the update explained.

By Saturday evening, Microsoft announced that it was no longer facing any issues with Azure.
