UK Police Arrest Suspect Connected to Ransomware Attack Disrupting European Airports

On Wednesday, the U.K.’s National Crime Agency (NCA) revealed the capture of a man associated with the ransomware attack that caused major delays and disruptions at several European airports over the weekend.

The cyberattack struck the check-in systems of Collins Aerospace on Friday, resulting in delays at airports in Brussels, Berlin, Dublin, and London’s Heathrow, which persisted until yesterday.

Although the NCA has not disclosed the individual’s identity, they mentioned he is in his forties and was arrested in West Sussex on Tuesday. The agency confirmed he has been given conditional bail.

“This arrest marks a significant advancement, but the investigation remains in its early phases and is ongoing,” said Paul Foster, deputy director and head of the NCA’s National Cyber Crime Unit.

NCA representative Richard Crowe informed TechCrunch that no further details would be released beyond the press statement.
