Facebook Upgrades Algorithm to Help Users Personalize Their Video Preferences

On Tuesday, Meta announced an exciting update to the Facebook algorithm, aimed at showcasing more Reels videos tailored to user preferences. This update brings features that enhance user control over their video feeds, AI-driven search suggestions, and brand-new friend bubbles.

Facebook is simplifying the way users can express their disinterest in particular videos. Now, users can tag a Reel as “Not Interested” or report a comment, prompting the recommendation system to adapt based on this feedback.

The “Save” feature has received an upgrade, making it easier to gather favorite Reels and posts in one convenient location.

These enhancements are designed to address user dissatisfaction with unwanted content. Numerous users have expressed concerns over Reels deemed scammy, annoying, or filled with low-quality AI-generated videos. Meta has made significant investments in AI, recently launching a short-form video feed called “Vibes,” which showcases only AI-generated material within the Meta AI app.

Additionally, the algorithm update focuses on prioritizing newer content. The company claims that users will see 50% more Reels uploaded on the same day they’re browsing their feeds.

Facebook Reels will now feature AI-driven search suggestions that help users uncover more content related to their interests, similar to the gray suggestions seen beneath TikTok videos.

Moreover, new friend bubbles will be introduced on Reels and in the main feed, enabling users to view which posts their friends have liked—similar to a function on Instagram. Users can click on a bubble with a friend’s profile picture to start a private message.
