Salesforce CEO Suggests National Guard Patrols in San Francisco, Catching His PR Team Off Guard
Marc Benioff has carved out a reputation as a liberal billionaire in San Francisco, well-known for his backing of homeless initiatives, investments in public education, and hosting fundraisers for Hillary Clinton.
However, in a recent in-depth phone interview with the New York Times, conducted from the comfort of his private jet, Benioff revealed an unexpected political transformation that surprised even his communications team, especially considering Salesforce’s extensive contracts with the federal government.
The Salesforce founder expressed his “full support” for President Trump, proposing that National Guard troops patrol the streets of San Francisco. He recounted his notable experience of sitting next to Trump at a state dinner in Windsor Castle, voicing his appreciation for Trump’s decisions. He also praised Elon Musk for his work on improving government efficiency and noted that he hadn’t been closely following news regarding immigration raids or Trump’s critiques of the media.
The 50-minute conversation reportedly wrapped up after Benioff glanced at his public relations executive, seemingly cognizant of her response. “What about the political questions?” he allegedly asked. “Too spicy?”
Benioff’s shift mirrors a broader trend of Silicon Valley adapting to Trump’s influence, and this dialogue offers a unique glimpse into the depth of such changes. The lingering question is: will other tech leaders in the Bay Area take a cue from Benioff and advocate for federal troops in their communities?
