Rivian to Begin Delivering R2 SUVs on June 9

Rivian has officially revealed that the inaugural deliveries of its new R2 SUV are set for June 9.

The automaker has been ramping up its efforts for the R2, which is intended to be more affordable and to appeal to a wider audience compared to its existing R1 series. Initially, the new SUV will be available in a trim priced just under $60,000, with Rivian planning to launch a “standard” version starting at $48,490 in 2027.

Furthermore, the company has signaled an even more budget-friendly option “starting around $45,000,” anticipated for late next year — a price point that Rivian has emphasized since the R2 was introduced in 2024.

Rivian is optimistic about the R2’s prospects. Founder and CEO RJ Scaringe mentioned it could be “the most significant launch we’ve had to date.” The company expects a swift ramp-up in production, targeting up to 25,000 vehicles delivered by the end of the year. Ultimately, Rivian believes that the R2, alongside its hatchback variant, the R3, will guide the company towards profitability for the first time since its founding in 2009.
