Robinhood Equips AI Agents to Manage Stock Trading for You

As the technology sector embraces AI agents, numerous companies are creating features that enable these agents to manage payments and trade stocks for users.

Stock trading platform Robinhood is also moving in this direction, announcing on Wednesday the introduction of support for AI-driven trading along with a new agent-based credit card.

Robinhood users can now create a separate account for their AI agents, linking it to a dedicated wallet. These agents will be capable of analyzing user portfolios and developing trading strategies, while only having access to the pre-loaded funds in the specified wallet for executing trades.

Users will receive notifications for all trades made by their AI agents and can track these activities within the Robinhood app. For specific trades, agents will present a preview that may require user approval prior to executing the order. The platform also includes fraud detection, with a dedicated team at Robinhood monitoring suspicious transactions to help users resolve any disputes.

Robinhood has launched a Model Context Protocol (MCP) service that allows users to connect their AI agents to evaluate concentration risk, sector exposure, execute trades, and identify new investment opportunities through analysis of analyst notes.

Currently in beta, the agent-based trading feature is limited to stock trading, but Robinhood plans to broaden its offerings to include options, cryptocurrency, event contracts, futures, and prediction markets in the near future.

Additionally, Robinhood is releasing a new virtual credit card specifically designed for AI agent use. This card allows users to link their AI agents to the company’s banking MCP server for payment capabilities.

At present, the virtual card is only available to Robinhood Gold Card holders, who can connect their accounts with this new feature.

Users can set monthly spending limits on the virtual card and choose whether their AI agent needs approval for each transaction. Robinhood intends to introduce a similar agent-based card feature for its Platinum Card when it launches later this year.

In recent years, Robinhood has ramped up its focus on AI technologies, acquiring the AI-powered research platform Pluto in 2024 and launching an AI assistant that provides investment advice last year.

“We’ve received significant demand from our users to integrate their tools, LLMs, and agents with Robinhood, which is why we are launching these new products,” said Abhishek Fatehpuria, VP of product at Robinhood, during a conversation with TechCrunch.

Robinhood is among a growing number of companies enabling AI agents to facilitate payments, joining industry leaders such as Stripe, Amazon, Google, and newer startups like Prava Pay in creating solutions that allow AI agents to make purchases on behalf of users.
