Sneak Peek: Apple’s Upcoming Siri App Set to Rival ChatGPT and More

Ahead of Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference (WWDC) scheduled for June, Bloomberg has unveiled leaked designs that highlight Apple’s forthcoming AI upgrades for the iPhone. This includes a redesigned Siri application intended to rival ChatGPT and other AI chatbots, along with the integration of these features into the operating system.

These images were developed by Bloomberg, informed by details sourced from trusted insiders.

While users will retain the option to activate Siri via a button in iOS 27, the animation and response will now emerge from the iPhone’s Dynamic Island, the pill-shaped area at the top of the screen that currently displays Live Activities. This enhancement will be perfect for quick voice inquiries or searches, mimicking the existing Siri functionality.

Furthermore, a new mode will make Siri-driven searches more accessible, taking advantage of users’ established muscle memory associated with swiping down to access Spotlight Search — the built-in tool for finding information on the device and the web. The swipe-down action will continue to activate search, but now it will utilize AI-powered Siri, featuring a newly upgraded AI model that integrates Google’s Gemini AI technology for improved intelligence.

According to Bloomberg, users will gain the ability to search, launch apps, send messages, get weather updates, schedule calendar events, sift through their notes, and activate app shortcuts, with results displayed in a card-style format that also emerges from the Dynamic Island.

Apple’s approach to AI is reminiscent of its earlier multi-billion dollar partnership with Google, which secured Google as the default search engine on the iPhone. Just as creating a search engine from scratch wasn’t a feasible option for Apple, the same applies to AI; the challenges and expenses are substantial hurdles for independent endeavors at this point. Therefore, Apple is collaborating with external partners for the necessary AI technologies, while also working on its own models, including local AI that functions on devices rather than relying on the cloud. This strategy reinforces Apple’s focus on privacy without necessitating a frantic race to catch up.

Bloomberg further notes the upcoming launch of a dedicated Siri application, as previously announced, which will compete directly with chatbots like ChatGPT, Claude, and Gemini. This app will include previous chat history and allow users to upload documents and images along with text.

As always, Apple’s scale remains a major advantage. While ChatGPT currently enjoys 900 million weekly users, Apple’s total user base across all devices reaches 2.5 billion—providing the company with a unique opportunity to introduce AI to users who have yet to adopt standalone AI solutions.
