Erin Brockovich Advocates for Transparency in Data Center Operations

Environmental activist Erin Brockovich has launched a new initiative aimed at increasing transparency surrounding the establishment of data centers and their impact on local communities.

Brockovich, who gained fame from Julia Roberts’ portrayal of her legal struggle against Pacific Gas & Electric, has created a website that includes a map of data centers throughout the United States.

This site showcases the map as a “work in progress,” drawing on information provided by local inhabitants regarding data centers. In a recent post on Substack, Brockovich noted that after seeking community input on data center issues in April, she received nearly 4,000 responses in just the first month.

“The main concern — surpassing issues like noise, water usage, and rising utility costs — can be summed up in one word frequently mentioned in the feedback: transparency,” she underscored.

Brockovich clarified that she is not issuing a “blanket statement against data centers” or AI, but is criticizing “the patterns seen in our map: projects announced only after permits are obtained, developers who disregard inquiries, and local officials signing NDAs before their communities are informed of proposed projects.”
