Erin Brockovich Advocates for Enhanced Transparency in Data Center Operations

Environmental champion Erin Brockovich has introduced a new initiative aimed at improving transparency regarding the creation of data centers and their impact on nearby communities.

Brockovich, who became widely recognized thanks to Julia Roberts’ depiction of her legal confrontations with Pacific Gas & Electric, has launched a website featuring a map of data centers throughout the United States.

This map is characterized as a “work in progress,” depending on community feedback about data centers. In a recent update on Substack, Brockovich shared that after addressing community concerns in April, she received nearly 4,000 responses in just the first month.

“The main concern — outweighing issues such as noise, water usage, and rising utility expenses — can be summarized in a single word that appeared frequently in the responses: transparency,” she noted.

Brockovich clarified that she is not issuing a “blanket statement against data centers” or AI, but is focusing on “the patterns highlighted in our map: announcements of projects occurring only after permits have been granted, developers overlooking inquiries, and local officials signing NDAs before their communities are informed of proposed developments.”
