Google’s Dreambeans: The Quirkiest AI Tool That Turns Your Life into a Cartoon Adventure!

Google Labs, the creative center of the tech giant, has launched a new AI-based app for iOS and Android aimed at enhancing your everyday experiences.

So, what is it all about?

Gozde Oznur, the product lead for the app, told TechCrunch that the aim is to leverage data from various Google services to compile a personalized list of AI-generated “stories.” These stories come in different formats, primarily centered around lifestyle suggestions. Oznur describes them as recommendations for “places to explore, topics to learn about, activities to try, and significant events.”

Dreambeans generates these ideas by examining a user’s Google data. “With your permission, Dreambeans uses Personal Intelligence to combine insights from Google apps like Gmail, Calendar, Photos, YouTube, and Search History to craft a concise set of daily stories designed to spark new ideas,” the company notes.

For instance, some stories could include nearby suggestions, like a coffee shop that aligns with the user’s preferences. In a promotional video, if you’ve noted the addition of a new puppy in your Google Calendar, Dreambeans might provide tips on managing a young dog. Additionally, it could deliver news articles relevant to the user’s past interests.

Oznur highlighted that the app aims to counteract doomscrolling by limiting users to a specific number of stories each day—typically between 10 and 14. The objective is to provide just the right amount of inspiration to motivate users to engage with the world outside, she noted. Many companies are currently focused on users weary of smartphone dependency. Recently, I reviewed a startup named Bond, which similarly harnesses AI for personalized lifestyle suggestions.

What about user privacy?

Oznur reassures that privacy safeguards are stringent. Only users can access the stories generated by the app. They can delete their data whenever they choose and can select which Google services to connect with the application.

And lastly, what’s the story behind the name “Dreambeans”?

The name reflects, in part, how the system operates while you’re asleep, Oznur explained.

“The dream component is literal: while you sleep, the app processes much of the data from your linked applications, which, as you can imagine, is quite substantial. The ‘beans’ part suggests starting your day with a fresh cup of coffee. It condenses everything overnight and presents you with a concentrated burst of inspiration in the morning,” Oznur further elaborated.

Dreambeans is currently available exclusively to eligible U.S.-based Google AI Ultra subscribers on both Android and iOS. However, users with a personal Google account can join a waitlist.
